This option is best suited for individuals and families who are interested in the full scope of what a doula can offer in the prenatal, labor and birth, and immediate postpartum periods. It is comprehensive care that begins in your late second trimester and extends through the first days of your little one's life. This option is especially helpful for first time birthers, and those who have previously given birth but desire additional options and support prenatally and in the birth room.

INCLUDED:

  • Two Prenatal Visits

    • At your prenatal visits we will become acquainted and discuss your prior birth experiences (if any), chat about your hopes, fears, and priorities for your birth, and explore the many options for comfort, support, and empowerment in the birthing environment. It is during these visits that we lay the foundation for trust and knowledge to ensure that your birth is faced with confidence and positivity. During our time together and through various other forms of communication in between our in person sessions,  I will customize my support without judgement to ensure my experience and knowledge can serve you best. We will work on a birth preferences plan, practice various non-medical comfort measures, and hone in on which methods of relaxation, visualization, and comfort touch best suit you (if applicable).

  • Lending Library

COMFORT MEASURES CLASS

$250

Not every momma is interested in hiring a doula. That is okay, and I support you if that is your choice. However, having knowledge of non-medical comfort techniques can go a long way in promoting confidence and connection in laboring people and their partners. In the comfort measures class, we will spend approximately two hours together in the final trimester to go over various options for comfort. This class will be tailored to your needs and vision for your birth, so we can hone in on what's most important to you. By answering some questions on a survey, I will come up with a custom lesson to include the best options for your scenario. These options include (but are not limited to):

  • Labor Postions for various situations

    • There are endless possibilities for how we can move our bodies to labor efficiently. Some positions are better at promoting fetal decent, some are better suited to help babies turn, and some just relieve pressure and discomfort. We will discuss the most common positions, as well as some not so typical positions to ensure you have a full bag of tools at your disposal at your birth.

  • Visualization and Relaxation Techniques

    • You will learn various visualization techniques to promote calmness, confidence, and endorphin flow. In addition to visualizing, I will show you a few handy relaxation techniques to help ground you and keep you focused during your labor.

  • Touch Techniques

    • Your partner will learn comforting touch techniques for various parts of the body to provide relaxation, distraction, and connection

  • Labor and Birth Support Tools

    • Birth and Peanut Balls

    • Rebozo

    • Hydrotherapy

    • Heat/Cold Therapy

    • TENS

    • Affirmation Tools

    • Distraction Objects

  • Breathing Exercises and Vocalization Techniques

    • Not all breathing techniques are created equally. While I do not teach patterned breathing techniques to my families, I do like to make sure they know that certain types of breathing can benefit different portions of the labor process. How we bring in a breath and the way we let it go can dramatically affect progress, oxygen saturation, and anxiety levels.

    • Vocalizing is a very helpful and natural way to relax through pain. Sometimes this can seem silly or intimidating, but it is important to realize that understanding the importance of the vocalizing in the birth room can go a long way in the reduction of discomfort and in helping your body open adequately for birth passage.

  • The Importance of Eating, Drinking, and Elimination

    • We will go over the most recent evidence on eating and drinking during the labor process, as well as ways to discuss the topic with your care provider. Further, we'll talk about the importance of frequent elimination, and how to deal with resistant care providers should you encounter them. I always encourage positive, respectful communication with your care provider, and knowing what to questions to ask your care provider can help birth room dynamics tremendously when the big day arrives.

  • Referral for respected Childbirth Education Classes

    • There is so much more to birth than comfort measures. Understanding the physiology of birth, birth interventions, complications, and the emotional aspects of childbirth are very important components of complete readiness. I will recommend several options from certified birth educators to complete your birth preparations.
