Growing up, I was always drawn to horses. When my cousin, Christina, got "into horses" when I was a little girl, I was beside myself. Some of my favorite childhood memories were visiting my cousins, going to the barn, and attending horse shows. I loved the smell of the barn, the connection with the animals, and the sense of purpose I felt when I was able to help care for them. It is at the horse shows where I also discovered my love of walking tacos...but that's a story for another blog post...
In highschool, I was able to work with a friend at a barn where she took lessons. This led into a summer of cleaning stalls and putting the horses out pasture, polishing saddles, and every other barn chore you could think of in exchange for riding lessons. I was in heaven. When we left that barn, I continued at various other barns here and there...always yearning for the day when I'd have my own horse to care for.
All that to be said, as a momma of 3 working full time while homeschooling, with two dogs, a cat, a fish, and a leopard gecko, I can certainly feel relief that we don't have a horse of our own right now. That is why when my veterinarian, Heather, reached out to me to capture her and her daughter with their horses, I was estatic. One of my personal photography bucket list items was to capture a session with horses. This evening was one filled with all the typical horse smells, some killer early evening light, and two of the sweetest ladies (plus their horses) a girl could have hoped to capture! We battled some wicked wind, but I'm happy to report that I came home tick-free after frolicking in the grass!
I hope you love this session as much as I do! From one photographer to another, thank you for trusting me, Heather!(Heather is a bad B. Not only is she about the best vet we've ever had, she's also an amazing photographer!)
